Obituary for
Natalie Safranovich (Kobylnyk)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mom and Baba, Natalie Lesia Safranovich on December 30, 2019 at the age of 84 years.
Natalie will forever be remembered and loved by her children. Miles (Lea) Safranovich, Maureen (Vito) DiSciglio, and Colin (April) Safranovich; grandchildren, Gracie, Rebecca and Marcus Safranovich, Daniel, Dominic and Davis DiSciglio, and Dylan Gorsalitz; special brother-in-law, Gene Lemiski; and many family and friends.
Natalie was predeceased by her husband, Eddie (Jack); her daughter, Larissa; sisters, Anne Lemiski, Tini Andrews and Olga Cherkawsky; and nieces, Chris Woida and Terri Andrews.
Natalie cherished hosting family gatherings and showed her love through her food. She will always be known for her sense of humour, beautiful singing voice and of course her cabbage rolls, pyrohy and Paska.
Natalie was born in Myrnam, Alberta on December 10, 1935. She was raised in Derwent with her 3 sisters where her parents, John and Helen Kobylnyk owned the Red and White General Store. In her youth mom was an avid curler and singer. Following high school and the passing of her father, mom helped out at the family store. In her 20s she moved to Edmonton to study as a legal secretary after which she worked at a legal office. Mom met Eddie Safranovich (aka Jack Spider) at a cousin’s wedding in Derwent and she soon fell for the leader of the band. They married on November 9, 1963. Following cultural and religious roots, they became original parishioners of St Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Shortly after starting their family mom decided to stay at home to raise her children. She later joined Canada Post in Sherwood Park where she worked as a clerk for close to 20 years. After her retirement Natalie filled her life with catering, volunteering at St Nicholas Parish and loving and adoring her grandchildren. She was well known for her cookie drawer.
Not only did mom teach us how to make cabbage rolls, pyrohy and Paska, she taught us the importance of the love of family and friends and that a smile and supportive hug can go a long way. Her smile will be missed.
Special thanks to Miller Crossing Long Term Care for the compassionate and loving care shown to mom over the past 4 years.
