Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Elizabeth (Graves) Allen on April 15, 2020 at her residence with her husband by her side. She was born in Saint John on August 19, 1935 to the late Willard and Maisie (Fenerty) Graves and was the loving wife of 64 years to husband, Donald Allen.
Nancy was a very talented seamstress, working out of her home for many years. She was quite active in her community- as a foster parent for many years, coaching Simonds minor hockey and was a long-time member of Calvary Temple Church. Nancy was gifted with the ability to succeed at any task she set her hands to. She was able to design and make wedding dresses, as well as sew the dresses for the entire wedding party. She could quilt and re-upholster furniture, do various carpentry around the house, embroider – basically anything she set her mind to, she could do. She was a very kind and selfless person, who was just beautiful, inside and out. She was an amazing and caring mother and grandmother who created so many memories over the years and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by her children, Tim (Anne), Darrell (Tish), Kristen “Shawny”, Heather Condren, Celia (Larry) Kelson and Trudy (Tim) Hunt; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Orsatti, Barbara Watts and Vella Bower; lifelong and wonderful friends, Joy Keith and Bette Shannon; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Phillip Allen, brothers, Stanley, Raymond, Parker and Murray Graves; and sisters, Mildred McCormick, Kathryn Handeland and Marjorie Broader.
Nancy’s family would like to take this time to extend a special thank you to Erica MacDonald, her nurse practitioner, as well as Dr. James Mowatt and all the extra mural nurses for the kindness and compassionate care they provided to her.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). In keeping with Nancy’s wishes, a private family graveside service will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Nancy’s memory to the Calvary Temple Building Fund or to charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Nancy Elizabeth Graves Allen August 19 1935 April 15 2020 (age 84)..
