Obituary
Mona Hawkins (Laing) of Powell River left us on November 25, 2020 three weeks shy of her 99th birthday. Born December 19, 1921 in Altario Alberta to Patty and John Laing the horse-drawn sleigh barely made it to the hospital on time. She grew up on the Laing farm south of Altario. Mona came to Powell River as part of a group of young nurses that had all trained at the Royal Alexandria in Edmonton to work in the Powell River Hospital. She met and married Bert Hawkins (who passed away in 2004) in 1947. Will be fondly remembered by sons Robert and Gary and beloved nieces and nephews Dianne Andrew, Susan Willis, John Hawkins, Judy Roper, David Laing, Sandra Crow, and Glen and David McAfee.
