Memorial Donation
Mildred Theresa Burke (Pottie) Mildred “Millie” age 91: It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Millie in Grand View Manor, in Berwick formerly of River Bourgeois on Thursday March 5, 2020. Mildred was born on Oct. 3rd, 1928. She was the daughter of the late: Leo and Margaret (McPhee) Pottie. In the 1950’s she and Raymond settled down in Grand Narrows where they raised their family. Upon Raymond’s retirement they returned to River for 31 years, moving to the Valley due to health reasons. Mildred was always ready to show hospitality to those who arrived at her door, a cup of tea, a meal, a game of cards with good conversation and Cape Breton music as a back drop. She was a keen reader and kept up with current events by reading the daily newspapers. She had a strong faith and passed this on to her family. An accomplished and avid knitter, she provided mitts, gloves and touques to her children and grandchildren, some of which are being worn by great grandchildren. Even in her last weeks she would play a game of crib. She is survived by her sons: Gerard (Ann) of Coldbrook , Vernon (Susan) of Port Coquitlam B.C Terry (Cheryl) of Limoges Ont. daughters: Elena (Dana) Sponagle of Lake Echo, Karen (Ken) Gillis of Halifax and Leona (Blake) MacKay of New Glasgow PE. She is predeceased by: beloved husband Raymond, infant son: Leo, and sister’s: Delia Cameron and Hilda (Lawrence) Burke. The family would like to thank the staff of Grand View Manor in Berwick for their compassionate care and support.
