It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Melvin George Carter announces his passing at his residence in Port aux Basques, NL on Monday, July 27th, 2020 at the age of 71 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, Melvin was the son of the late James and Rosanna Carter (nee Osmond). He was also predeceased by his father and mother-in-law; Roy and Dorothy Musseau (nee Warren), baby brother Charlie Carter and brother Kevin Carter.
He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of fond and precious memories his loving wife of 49 years Deloras, his two children Jason (Edna) Carter of Winterland, NL, Craig (Kim) Carter of Port aux Basques, NL. Melvin will forever be in the hearts of his precious grandchildren Brooke, Alexander, Sam, brothers; Junior (Doris) Carter of Dartmouth, NS, Gary (Laverne) Carter of Burnt Islands, NL, Mike (Natasha) of Halifax, NS, sisters; Carolann (Bob) Blough of Keswick, ON, Linda (John) Bleakney of Dartmouth, NS, Joan Parsons of Lunenburg, NS, Judy (Ken) Savoury of Port aux Basques, NL. Melvin also leaves behind his brothers-in-law; Garland (Irene) Musseau, Tony (Wanda) Musseau, Calvin (Rose) Musseau, Barry (Darlene) Musseau, Jeff (Diane) Musseau, sisters-in-law; Vina Carter and Christine (Donald) Purchase all of Port aux Basques, NL plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Melv enjoyed life to the fullest and was a very kind giving person who would do anything for anybody anytime. He loved to spend his time with family and friends. Melv enjoyed walking, playing darts, hockey, fishing, hunting and cooking. He was known for his famous fish ‘n chips and made some of the best soup in the world. He enjoyed his Saturday nights hosting his family and friends cooking and keeping them entertained. He loved it in the woods moose hunting with his Hot Cross Buns brothers. He was a great uncle to his nieces and nephews and loved to do what he could for them without ever asking for anything in return.
In keeping with Melvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on on Thursday, July 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc. A celebration of Melvin’s life will take place on Thursday, July 30th following the visitation officiated by Rev. Jane Allen. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations can be made to charity of your choice.
