The peaceful
passing of Melvin Gallant, of Fredericton, aged 96 years, occurred on

Born in Abram’s Village PEI, he was a son
of the late Peter and Eleanor (Arsenault) Gallant. Besides his
parents, Melvin was predeceased by his wife Antoinette (Nancy)
(Poirier) Gallant in 2015, two sisters Eugenie and Thelma, six
brothers Barney, Léonce, Eric, Gus, Jerry and
Urban.
Melvin is survived by his daughter, Dianne, his son
Rick (Heather), grandsons, J.R. (Jess) and Andrew (Alison);
great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Kathy (Barney); and Anita
(Pascal); special nieces Peggy and Darlene (John); as well as several
other nieces and nephews.
Melvin had many accomplishments in his life, He was a
schoolteacher in PEI at the young age of 17. In 1952 he went to the
Northwest Territories where he continued to teach in Fort Simpson
until 1957. Upon returning to the East Coast, he was appointed
Principal of Burnt Church School, NB, until 1967. He subsequently
worked in Fredericton as a Guidance Counsellor in the Federal Civil
Service until his
retirement.
Melvin had a great sense of humour and was quite the
story teller who loved to share stories of the good old times. He
loved trivia and a good game of cribbage and crokinole. You could
always learn a thing or two about nature, the weather and fishing from
Dad.
Dianne and Rick want to extend a heartfelt thank you
to the staff of Pine Grove who took care of Dad. Helen (Lightning),
Tracy (Palk Strait) and as of recent Mike-the boy from Cape Breton,
and Melisa from the ‘Gornish’, and all the other
staff who made his last few years
memorable.
In keeping with Melvin’s wishes, there will
be no visitation or service. For those who wish, remembrances may be
made to the Pine Grove Foundation Inc. pinegrovenh.com/foundation/about-us/
or to a charity of the donor’s choice. The
