McEWAN, Brian Manson

Brian Manson McEwan died 22 November 2020. Born 10 September 1952 David Leonard Nelson in Winnipeg. Joyce Kathleen (née Pepper; 1926-2019) and Gordon Manson McEwan (1922-2010) adopted Brian 2 months later. Brian did not know he was adopted until 2010. He is survived by wife, Colleen (née Whibley); son and family Jamie, Laura, Morgan and Sullivan; sister Dayle; brother Donnie; brothers-in-law Fred (Janet) and Alex (Ann), and sister-in-law, Evelyn (Bruce) and their families. Brian grew up in East Kildonan in Winnipeg on a street with 23 boys of similar age in a 1 square block area. They entertained and terrorized the neighbourhood, which Brian held in high regard. He became a great swimmer and water polo player. Brian obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with the University of Winnipeg in 1974, the year Brian and Colleen wed. After graduating, he worked for Applied Photogrammetric Sciences, some contract jobs, and various departments of the Manitoba Government. Of particular note were the 3 years he spent inspecting winter roads in Manitoba’s north, which left an indelible mark on his life. Brian and Colleen moved to B.C. in 1980, where Brian worked for Planistics, Western Land Consultants, Associated Engineering and finally the District of Lake Country as Engineering Services Manager until retiring in 2012. In each of the communities he contributed, he made them better. Brian loved driving and taking many trips back to Manitoba; particularly Dorothy and Nutimik Lakes where he spent most of the summers in his youth, loved every moment, met Colleen and made some lifelong friends.
