Matthew’s Obituary
Matthew Michael Murphy was unexpectedly taken away from us on Tuesday July 28th, 2020, at the age of 22 years old. Matthew was born into this world happy and healthy on June 7, 1998, in Whitecourt, Alberta by Mara Plican and Brad Murphy. Matthew was happy and healthy when he passed.
Matt, also known as “Murph” by close friends and relatives. Matthew grew up and graduated in Fox Creek, with a 2-year exception in Grande Prairie, but Matt missed his family and moved back to Fox Creek, which is when he had met his girlfriend. Many people knew Matt had struggles in his life (just like everyone does) but with the loving support of his family and devoted and attentive girlfriend, Matt was on the path to living the life he deserved. Matthew’s new positive attitude towards life allowed him the opportunity to meet a beautiful, intelligent, young woman, Bailey Dreyer. Who has given him her unconditional love, reassurance, confidence and support to continue his positive new approach at life. There was never a time that you would not see Matthew and Bailey together, they were like tied together by strings, they were always standing by each other’s side. Matthew and Bailey had moved into their own place together, and have raised two intelligent, energetic beautiful fur babies, Kodak and Novah. They were both truly living their happiest and best lives.
Matt had worked for the Town of Fox Creek for almost one year. He truly loved the outdoors and took so much pride in his work at the RV campground. Matthew had a passion for photography and loved to capture photos of the sky. Matt was inspired by Elon Musk, Joe Rogan Jordan Peterson, Steven Rinella, and many music artists. Matthew had also been running a company, called The Not So Boring Company, where people can purchase and view his space and sky photos. When Matthew was younger, he played basketball, and hockey, he even played sledge hockey when he spent his brief time in Grande Prairie. Matthews favorite sport is hockey. Matt would make his brother Tristan be the goalie, and Matthew would be switching between playing each of the other players positions, until he would get a goal. He would say he needed someone in the net to try and stop the pucks, but he truly loved to spend time with his younger brother. Matthew was a natural born athlete who was amazing and precise with absolutely everything that he did and all that he worked hard for. A couple of Matthew’s favorite quotes is “We define ourselves far too often by past failures. That is not you. You are this person right now. You are the person who has learned from those failures. Build confidence and momentum with each good decision you make from here on out.” Joe Rogan or “Work super hard” Elon Musk.
With much loss, Matthew will be dearly missed by his girlfriend Bailey Dreyer, their fur babies Kodak and Novah, his Mother Mara Plican, Father Brad Murphy, Brother Tristan Murphy, Grandfather Mike Plican, Grandmother Dee McQuay, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends and family friends.
Matthew was predeceased by his grandmother Margret Plican of September 27, 2007
Matthews celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 9th at 12:00 in the RV park field, by invitation only. As we know Matt had many friends and family members, Covid is limiting us to 100 people. Matthew had requested that you please do not wear black clothes, preferably colorful and bright. We also please ask for those who are invited to please bring your own chairs. Contact Mara Plican (780-622-5371) or Bailey Dreyer (780-300-7620) if you have questions or for more information.
Memorial donations may be put towards the Plican and Murphy family on GoFundMe.
The family of Matthew wishes to extend our sincere thank you to Dr. Olivier, Rising Above Ministry, Lynne van der raddt and Chapel of Memories, Elaine Kappo.
