MARY HELEN MARRIOTT (BELL) – HEAD OF ST. MARGARET’S BAY – 1925-2020
95, passed away peacefully at home September 17, 2020. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 58 years, James (Jim), brother Murdoch Bell, sisters Ruth, Dolly and Jean, daughter-in-law, Joye, grandsons Richard and Timothy. She is survived by her eight children Jamie (Val), Calgary; Donna (Bill) Forrest; Barry (Belinda), Richard (Clara), Steven (Johan); all of St. Margaret’s Bay, Helena (Paul) Whiting; Michael (Sue), Boutilier’s Point, Mary Ann (Lance), Queensland, 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.
Mary was born in Halifax and lived in Lakeside before moving to the Bay in 1956. She dedicated her life to nurturing her husband and children; her legacy is the family she leaves behind and the respect & admiration of all whose lives she touched. All were welcomed in her home with open arms, a warm heart and a smile. Her home was always filled with laughter, love, and compassion.
She loved music, played the piano, accordion and mouth organ, enjoying musical get togethers with her sisters. She was happy and content to live in the home that Dad built for her enjoying the ocean and surrounded by “her” birds and gardens. Her other happy place was their camp in Cape Breton where they spent vacations over the years with their children and just the two of them after Jim retired.
She had a special place in her heart for children and a special time in her life was the many years she and Jim volunteered at the Children’s Hospital with their dear friends Ruth and Eric.
She was a woman of faith and trusted that prayer would guide her and her family through troubled times.
The family is so grateful for the many special people who made her last years comfortable and helped care for her so she could stay in her home. Special thanks to Dr. Maria Lang, Closing The Gap caregivers, especially Crystal, Angela and Shayna, and Laureen and Marlene who cherished the time they spent with her. Appreciation also to Walker’s Funeral Home who guided us through the process for her final journey.
Mary will be cremated and a private family ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
