Marjorie Verna Murphy
1923-2020
Marjorie Verna (Kelley) Murphy – 97, of
Berwick, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2020 with her
girls by her side at Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Waterville,
she was a daughter of the late George and Alice (Reeves)
Kelley. Marjorie was a born and raised resident of Berwick. She
enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Florida with many friends from
home. She was a very faithful and lifelong member of Christ Anglican
Church, Berwick and a member of the ACW. She also belonged to the
South Berwick Women’s Institute, the Berwick Curling Club,
the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch 69, Berwick and the Rebecca
Lodge. She was known for her generosity, hard work, caring and kitchen
planning for large events and dinners. For giving back and supporting
her community she was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2012. She built
her entire career around cooking, having owned, and operated
Jack’s Lunch and worked as a cook for Mountain View Home,
the Western Kings Memorial Hospital and Kingswood Camp. She was
‘Auntie Marj’ to many and well known for her
biscuits, rolls, pies, and doughnuts. Her door was always open and
there was always something to eat. Marjorie loved to sew, knit, play
cards, dance, and spend time with her friends. She was an avid curler,
golfer, and gardener. She loved being surrounded by people. She
enjoyed a good laugh, and spending time with her precious
family. Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Bob)
Trefry, of Aylesford Lake; Jackie (Gary) Roop, of Windermere; sister,
Velma Belliveau, of Berwick; grandchildren, Kellie Trefry (Digger
Hughes), Kevin (Theresa) Trefry, Jennifer Roop (John Crick) and
Jonathan Roop (Bailey Faubion); great grandchildren, Mya,
Kamryn, Abby, Camden, Brenan and Lincoln. She also loved and was loved
by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she
was predeceased by her husband, John “Jack” Murphy; two
sons, in infancy; brothers, Malcolm, Cecil, Vincent and Lawrence;
sisters, Mildred, Gertrude and
Jeannette. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the
caring staff of Grand View Manor, especially the Rainforth-Wagner
Units, Dr. Bustin and Michelle Robinson for going above and beyond and
keeping us connected through these past few
months. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
A private graveside service will be held in the Berwick Cemetery,
Reverend Mel Malton officiating. An online webcasting of the service
will be available at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 6, 2020 by
visiting www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com. Donations in memory may be made
to the Canadian Diabetes Association (NS) or the ACW of Christ
Anglican Church, Berwick. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted
to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
