Obituary of Marie Brummond
Marie Brummond, resident of Dawson Creek, slipped quietly away with family by her side in her home on Monday, September 21, 2020, at the age of 84.
Marie was born in Pouce Coupe, BC to loving parents Carl and Mabel Lindgren. Mabel was known to mention that the trip to Pouce Coupe from the homestead in Bessborough was a long one, but in the end, the babies were keepers. Marie became big sister to Charlie and Ross.
Growing up on a farm was hard work with everyone pitching in, followed by bountiful harvests and lifelong skills and lessons learned. Marie enjoyed those years. She attended Willowbrook School and later lived in town in the dormitories to attend and graduate Grade 12 from South Peace Secondary School. School came easy and she excelled in the bookkeeping, shorthand, and typing area, which led to jobs she loved over the years.
While living the single life in Dawson Creek, in a small rental house with a couple of good girlfriends, she met her future life partner David, a handsome young man from Saskatchewan. This is when the real fun began.
Dave and Marie’s courtship quickly led to marriage in 1957. They settled in Dawson Creek and in 1958 their first son Kenneth was born, Sandra arrived in 1959, Darrell in 1960, and in 1967 Trevor arrived to complete the family. In 1960 Dave and Marie found time to build their home on 96 Avenue and this house is where Marie made a home that all remember fondly.
Marie was a stay at home mom, and filled the house with the smell of fresh baked bread and goodies, the sound of the sewing machine whirring, and the constant traffic of friends, relatives and neighbors that a busy family creates. The house was spotless always, Monday was laundry day, Saturday was shopping day, etc. All organization was done by Marie quietly and efficiently. Numerous interruptions and small crisis never threw her off. Her flower and vegetable gardens and greenhouse were her happy place and the results showed her love of it.
Family was always number 1, but in retirement things slowed down enough to enable her time to volunteer with charities and the Seniors Association, where she held the position of Treasurer for many years and was awarded a lifetime membership.
The grandchildren began arriving in 1990 with Sydney, Keaton, Chase, Rhian, Kolby, Simon, Tristan, Sadie and Matt. Many camping trips, barbeques, crowded family dinners, and playtime on 96 Ave with Gramma and Grampa followed. The gift of their time and love was felt by all the grandchildren. The latest addition of great granddaughters Emma and Lyla was the icing on the cake.
Marie is survived by her daughter Sandra and Ian McLeod and family, her son Darrell and Lorras Brummund and family, and her son Trevor and Lisa Brummund and family, her sister-in-law Jeannie Lindgren and family. She also had the love and support of many cousins and their families.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Dave Brummond, son Kenneth Brummund, parents Carl and Mabel Lindgren, and brothers Charlie and Ross Lindgren.
Marie will be greatly missed by many and fondly remembered. Her family cherishes the many, many good times we had and will be raising a glass of wine or two to her in a family celebration.
Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
