Marie nee Phillippo Coles 2020

COLES, Marie (nee Phillippo)
With broken hearts, we, the family of Marie Alice Coles, are deeply saddened to announce her peaceful passing with her family by her side on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney.
Born February 5, 1935, in Westmount, Marie was the firstborn of the late Desire “Feese” and Annie (Thompson) Phillippo.
In her early years she worked at Point Edward Hospital. Later she worked at the Sydney Detox Center. Mom was known as a hard worker who was a pleasure to work with. She was an avid bingo player and a lucky one at that, often came home with the prize for the “weekly jackpot” or the “around the world” or the “T”. Mom loved animals especially her beloved Shih Tzu, Muffin. She loved gardening and was a terrific cook, happy to feed whomever was around for dinner. Mom loved dancing and especially jiving to Elvis’s jail house rock. She had a youthful sense of humour that included a whimsical collection of cute plush animals. Mom was fascinated by golf and loved following her favorite players.
Mom loved her family and was a devoted mother and wife. She was always the last one to sit down to the table at dinner, as she always made sure everyone was fed first. Her relationship with Anthony was truly special, they were best friends. Once they retired it was hard to find them apart whether it was camping, grocery shopping, or a Sunday drive to St.Peter’s for a hot dog. This bond extends to Bob and Helena whom were always around to lend a helping hand when needed or just to share some time around the kitchen table over a cup of tea. Even towards the end of her days her thoughts and memories were of her loved ones who had already passed, notably her father who she affectionally called “Grampy”. It warms our hearts to know that you will all be together again in heaven.
Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her son,Freddie Snow and brother, Terry Phillipo.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, Anthony of 45 years; daughters, Donna Snow (Christine Filipowich), Niagara Falls, ON and Debbie Ellerbrok (Gary), Vancouver, BC; son,Jonathan Coles (Krista), Dartmouth; stepsons, Keith Coles (Angie), Lindsay, On and Tony Coles, Toronto, On; grandchildren, Ariane Ellerbrok, Candice Kern(Rudy), Brittany Ellerbrok (Joey); Krista, Amanda and Kayla Snow; David Snow(Stacey) and Meaghan Snow-Clayton; Abbygail and Bennett Coles; Nicole, Michael,Kaitlyn and Nickolas Coles along with many great-grandchildren. Marie alsoleaves behind brothers, Bob Phillipo (Helena), Westmount and Wannie (Jeroma) Phillippo, Port au Port, NL; many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the MacGillivary Guest Home for the care and affection that mom received during her time spent there. Especially, the compassionate care she received during her last weeks.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will beheld at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount on Thursday January 30 at 11 am, with Father Doug Murphy officiating. Interment in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
The passing of Mom will leave a gaping hole in our hearts. When you think of her, please remember her warming smile, her infectious laugh and giving nature.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
