It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother on April 10, 2020 at her residence at Princess Court.
Maria was born October 3, 1926 in Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. She met her husband Jose Santos in Vila Franca do Campo and were married October 5, 1946. In the years following they had 5 children. December 1965 they moved their family to Canada settling in Dryden.
In Maria’s younger years she loved to garden, sew, prepare Portuguese food and was devoted to her Catholic faith.
During her time at Princess Court you would always see her sitting in the hallway smiling and most often singing.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Jose (Goretti), daughter Lucia Martins (Victor) and son Amaro (Lori), grandchildren Cristoven (Jeanine), Dan, Kevin Martins (Jennifer), Tammy Parr (Mike), Jordan (Laura), Jennifer VanLieshout (Ted), and 8 great grandchildren Thomas, Maxwell, Kayden, Helayna, Arianna, Lucas, Noah, Theo and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Predeceased by her husband, infant daughter, six month old son Manuel, her parents and 3 sisters.
A special thank you to the staff at Princess Court for their amazing care and support during these difficult times.
There will be no visitation. A private family burial will take place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
