Maisie Marie Mean
1929-2020
The passing of Maisie Marie (Wilson) Mean occurred at the Fundy
Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB on February 21, 2020 with her family
at her side. Born in McNamee NB on June 20, 1929, she was the daughter
of the late Murray and Clara (O’Donnell) Wilson. A loving mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Maisie is survived by her
daughter: Beth Hatt (David) of Utopia NB; grandchildren: Derek Hatt
(Jody) and Dawn Marie Glennie both of St. George NB;
great-grandchildren: Felicia, Garrett, Gracyn, Hudson and Charlee; one
brother: Purdy Wilson of Moncton NB; one step-son: Elwood Mean and
family of Fredericton; very special nieces and nephews: Debra, Murray,
Iva Lynn, Athalie, Clara, Sheila, Stephen, Clarke, Charlene, and
Keith; several grand nieces, nephews and cousins; a chosen family of
St. George who knew her as “Tata”: Gifford, Marjorie,
Mike, Glenn and Debbie; and many special friends. In addition to her
parents, Maisie was predeceased by her husband: Horace Mean; and
brother: Karl Wilson.
Prior to retirement, Maisie worked in several fields and retired from
J.D. Irving Woodlands. Her working years started with her family in
McNamee NB at Wilson’s Sporting Camps, Boiestown Lumber Company,
Bank of Nova Scotia, then on to working with an accounting firm in
Montreal before returning back to NB to work for JDI. Maisie was a
member of the Sea View Full Gospel Church in Back Bay. She was
passionate about Missions around the world, and she was one of the
initial founders of AMI (Atlantic Missions Inc) and the WMF
(Women’s Mission Fellowship) whose role is to support
missionaries, their families, and special mission projects.
Maisie’s hobbies and interests mostly were consumed with her
mission vision and the mission fields she loved: Spain, Columbia,
France, Philippines and Montreal, places that were very close to her
heart. In her spare time she was always going somewhere; trips,
visiting, you name it, she often was referenced by her family and
friends as the “Road Runner”. She loved visiting with
friends and family, especially around a table for meals, a good cup of
tea with lots of discussion, various conversation, and lots of
laughter, most times including a reminiscing of peculiar experiences
or adventures.
The family would like to thank her friends for all their friendships
that filled her life with joy, and The Fundy Nursing Home, with its
family and friendship atmosphere, for their compassion and care given
to Maisie in her final years.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26
Portage Street, St. George NB. A Celebration of Life Service for
Maisie will be held at Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay, NB on
Thursday, April 30th, 2020 at 2:00 pm. In her memory, donations to
Atlantic Missions Inc. or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be
appreciated by the family.
