Obituary
With heavy hearts, the family of Madeline Mary McGuire announces her passing, which occurred on Sunday, December 20th, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Madeline was born in St. Louis, PEI on August 22, 1928; a daughter of the late John and Abina (Poirier) Gallant, and the loving wife of the late Louis McGuire.
Madeline lived her life according to her faith. Love of family and friends was top priority. Her heart was pure. You could share anything with her over a simple cup of tea and know for that time together, you held her total attention. She didn’t have a busy social calendar. She loved reading scripture, chatting and has literally worn out knitting needles. Everyone knew of her obsession with yarn and lunch with her girls or “lupper” at the Irving was often a treat after a day of running the roads or a Friday morning hair appointment.
She is survived by her sons Michael (Anne), Daniel (Dianne), Gerard (Judy), and John (Wanda); daughters Irene Maillet (the late Joe), Brenda Corbett, Mary McGuire (Andy) and Nora McGuire; sister Clorissa Helps, 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Madeline was pre-deceased by her brothers Oliver, Albin, and Raymond, sisters Anna Northrup, Alfreda Bond and Carol Grant, daughter Patricia Kane and grandson Adam Kane.
The family would like to thank all who cared for her during this last visit to the SJRH. From the paramedics who took her there, the folks in the ER, 4A-South, 5C-North and in the Palliative Care Unit. Madeline’s final journey was handled with much dignity, respect and care.
In lieu of flowers, may we suggest The Sus Vale Transition House or any charity of the donor’s choice.
