April 6, 1930 – April 12, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that the Whiteway family announces that Mabel Jeanette Whiteway of Lockeport, NS passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2020. Mabel was predeceased by her loving husband Earle Lawrence Whiteway, daughter Paula Lee (Whiteway) Lloyd and grandson Kyle J L Rodgers; and is survived by her children Mary (Gene) Arey of Clyde River, Harvey (Elizabeth) Whiteway of Boston, Erla (Michael) Laurie of Banff, Michael (Kathy) Whiteway of Lockeport, Patricia (Ray) Price of Lunenburg, Rickey Whiteway of Dartmouth, Suzanne (Leigh) Thorburn of Shelburne; grandchildren Michelle, Denise, Michael Leigh, Leona, Rickey; William, Alexander; Tanya, Courtney, Erica, Andrea, John; Richard, Sally, Shawn; Sarah, April, Bill, Matthew; Christopher, Dawn, Melodie; Hughie; Hannah, Jacob; and great grandchildren Steven, Andrew, Taylor, Logan, Alana, Alexander, Cole, Lucas, Halle, Ellie, Ashley, Sarah, Doran, Patrick; Finnley, Landon, Jacob; Aiden; Avery, Blake, Richard, Todd, Sarah, Matthew; Christopher, Joel; Liam, Benjamin and Porter – all of whom will forever lovingly remember their Mother and Nanny. During their 65 years of marriage, Mabel and Earle found endless joy with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They took great delight in large family gatherings, birthdays, holidays, family outings, picnics, camping, fish-fries and motorhome travel adventures. They were also successful business partners. Dedicated to family, friends and community, Mabel was kind and selfless, a dedicated volunteer with the local food bank, Juniper House, a Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer of Lockeport United Baptist Church. Making chemo hats for the Sunshine Room gave her great joy. As an avid craftsperson and teacher, Mabel enjoyed making quilt tops, hand quilting, knitting, Swedish weaving and cake decorating. She was also a member of the Ragged Island IODE Chapter, W.M.S., and in her early years, a member of the Baptist Sewing Circle. Mabel was the daughter of the late Frank and Amy Williams, and was predeceased by brothers Private Harvey Williams, Lindsay Williams, sisters Shirley Williams and Elva Williams; and survived by sister Doris Stephenson of Ottawa and sister-in-law Clara (Lindsay) Williams of Lockeport. The family is ever grateful to Dr Eissa, Dr Macfarlane; the Palliative Care Team – Dr Lisa Gillis, Nurse Tracy Smith and the many VON Caregivers and Nurses. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. A private graveside service will take place and a celebration of life will be held in Lockeport at a later date. Donations in Mabel’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Lockeport United Baptist Church or the Local Food Bank.
