It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Loretta Mae Skeard (nee Melbourne) announce her peaceful passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Saturday, December 5th, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Born in Grand Bruit, NL, Loretta was the daughter of the late Harley and Elsie Melbourne (nee Neil). She was also predeceased by her husband William in 1977, father and mother-in-law; John and Dinah Skeard (nee Kendall), daughter; Sandra, brothers; Doug Melbourne, Cecil (Susie) Melbourne, and Allan (Cornelia) plus a large circle of extended family.
She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her loving sons; Don (Dora) Skeard of Kippens, NL, Rick (Pauline) Skeard of Port aux Basques, NL, Darrell Skeard of Halifax, NS, grandchildren Dion Skeard of Stephenville, NL, Sandi (Kenny) Targett of Kippens, NL, great-grandchildren; Dalton Skeard of Stephenville, NL, Jenna Targett, Khole Targett both of Kippens, NL, Kylie Duhart of Oromocto, NB, sister; Daphne Patey of Port aux Basques, special care givers; Janice Morris and Donna Downey plus a large circle of friends.
Loretta was a very outgoing, sociable woman who was very involved in her church and was a part of the ACW. She volunteered her time with the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Auxiliary and her favorite hobby was sewing. She loved making blankets and quilts.
Loretta was a woman who loved being active and playing sports. She played boom-ball, bowling and loved to line dance. She will be also sadly missed by her friends at the seniors club and the CN Pensioners.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 7th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 8th, at 11 am from St. James Anglican Church, Channel-Port aux Basques officiated by Rev. Jane Allen. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in Loretta’s memory can be made to the St. James Anglican Church or the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, 835 Topsail Rd Unit 107, Mount Pearl, NL, A1N 3J6.
