Lois’ Obituary
On Friday, June 19, 2020, surrounded by her family, Lois Beatrice Jacobson, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and auntie, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 92 years.
Lois was born on August 8, 1927, to William and Louie (nee Askew) Howard in Central Butte, SK. In the summer of 1931, along with her parents, she made the long trip to their homestead in Parr View. As she grew older, Lois enjoyed helping her family on the farm, assisting with field work, along with other chores.
Lois attended Moss Side school in the Parr View district, SK as well as Moore Side school in Manchester, England.
In 1939, the family moved back to England, when Lois’s father, William, joined the army. Lois joined the land army in England at the age of 15. In December 1944, during the war, Lois sailed back to Canada with her mother and two brothers, Derek and Melvin, on the Ile de France ocean liner.
Lois was united in marriage to Curtis Melford Jacobson on November 9, 1951, in the Moss Side school by the United Church minister, D.E. Browne. Over those years, they were blessed with two children, Carolyn and Allan. Lois and Curtis farmed in the Norquay district until 1979.
After her husband, Curtis, passed away in a tragic accident, Lois moved to Norquay and was care giver for her mother until her mother’s passing in 1984. Lois continued to live in the home.
Through the years, she was a homemaker, farmer, home care aid and nurses aid at the Norquay hospital, where she thoroughly enjoyed her work with her comrades. Lois loved her adventures with her children, family and good friends. She enjoyed camping, fishing and pursued many hobbies, gardening, knitting and needlepoint. She also enjoyed traveling back to England with her Mother and eldest niece, Jacqueline. She also traveled through the states and into Mexico with her son and family.
Lois was well known by many for her engaging smile, big heart and the words to live by, “never put off for tomorrow what she could get done today.”
She worked hard at keeping her yard and flowers well cared for. After her retirement, she was blessed by Anna Howard giving her a kitten which Anna named Lilac. Lois soon after called her Babe as she was her baby (both names stuck).
Lois enjoyed going to church, enjoyed her church family and going out with the girls who worked with her at the Health Centre.
She adored Christmas, especially all the lights and put them up herself until she was near 90. She loved to attend the birthday parties of her family, nieces, nephews and their children and was always included in family gatherings with Derek’s family.
In 2018, Lois was diagnosed with lung cancer but refused all treatment. Her wish was to not take any treatment and to live in her home as long as possible, which she did with family caring for her along with home care. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lois was predeceased by her parents, William and Louie Howard; husband, Curtis Jacobson; and her sister-in-law, Betty-Anne Howard.
Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her children, Carolyn (Don) and Allan (Barb); grandchildren: Dione (Derek), Devon (Jennifer), and Darell (Nikko); great grandchildren: Carson, Blake, Weston, Reese, Sydney, Jade and Jasmine; and her brothers, Derek (Delphine) and Melvin (Marg); as well as her many wonderful nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will gather for a Private Service at the Norquay United Church. A Public Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2020, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, north of Norquay, SK, with Rev. Margaret McCallum officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Norquay United Church Memorial Fund, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Lois Jacobson.
