Lloyd’s Obituary
BOWER, Lloyd Blair – 75, of Shelburne, NS. It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lloyd with his wife by his side at the Roseway Hospital on June 3, 2020. Born on January 16, 1945, he was the son of Robert and Nina (Acker) Bower. Those who knew Lloyd, knew he had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt and trap from his family camp on Rory Lake and he did it as much as possible. He loved spending time at camp and especially his time up to the Boys Camp for cards and their famous duck stews. Lloyd was a Mason by trade but spent the majority of his career (38 years) as a Foundry Worker at the family owned business of Atkinson & Bower. He took great pride in his work and had a work ethic that was second to none. Lloyd was also a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Shelburne for 17 years. When Lloyd wasn’t at camp, you always knew where to find him. He rarely missed making his early morning rounds for coffee and storytelling with his buddies before heading to his yard to tend to his beautiful vegetable garden that was the envy of many. Lloyd definitely had a green thumb. When the yard work was done, evenings were spent at barn meetings for more coffee and storytelling. If you wanted a story to grow legs or be embellished just a little…you could count on ol’Lloydy. In all seriousness, Lloyd was the kindest, most hard working, most gentle man and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be missed by so many. Lloyd is survived by his mother Nina Bower; his wife Sandra (Bower); son Blair Lloyd and wife Rachel, Halifax, NS; son Johnadam and his girlfriend Roxanne, NB; stepson Thomas Bower and Kendra, Clark’s Harbour, NS; Stepdaughter Vicky Tolgyes (Bower) and husband Frank, Hopewell, NS; brother Terry, Antigonish; brother Pat and wife Anne, Duncan, BC; sister Donna (Mahaney), Shelburne,NS; and sister Pam, Antigonish, NS. He is pre-deceased by his father Robert Bower; sister-in-law Florence Bower; and brother-in-law, Lamont Mahaney. Lloyd is also survived by 4 grandsons, 4 granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend thanks to the palliative care team, VON, and the nurses on north wing for all the exceptional care they gave Lloyd during his battle with cancer. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. Donations in his name may be made the Nova Scotia Cancer Society.
