Obituary of Linda E. Stevenson (nee Way)
STEVENSON, Linda E. (née Way)- Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away peacefully at VON Sakura House, Woodstock on Saturday, March 21, 2020, in her 62nd year. Born in Belleville, ON, July 25, 1958, she was the loved daughter of Freda (née Jeffs) Way of Belleville, and the late Edward “Ed’’ Way. Beloved wife for almost 42 years to William “Bill” Stevenson. Dearly loved mother of Jason Stevenson (Jamie) of Strathroy, and John Stevenson (Vickie) of St. Thomas, and cherished grandmother of Chelsea Stevenson of Strathroy. Dear sister of Louanne Melburn (Len), and Jim Way (Shelly), all of Belleville. She will be missed by her dogs, Abbey and Tuxedo. Linda is also remembered by several in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
Linda was serving her second term as a member of the St. Thomas City Council, and in that capacity was on a number of committees. She served as a trustee for St. Thomas/Elgin with the Thames Valley District School Board from 2000-2006, and was Vice-Chair of the LHIN from 2006 to 2012, overseeing health care, including hospitals from Tobermory to the shores of Lake Erie. Linda was also a long-time community volunteer, serving on numerous committees and boards, and was the recipient of local, provincial and national recognition and awards.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at Belleville Cemetery. A public celebration of Linda’s life will be held in St. Thomas at a later date. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation or VON Sakura House, Woodstock will be gratefully acknowledged. Linda’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Phillip Blanchette, Dr. Michael Mitchell, and the nurses and staff of the Chemotherapy Unit and 4th Floor (Acute Care) at the STEGH, as well as VON Sakura House.
