Lewis F. Pearce Sgt. Retired, CD, R.C.E.M.E. was born Dec. 3, 1944 in St. John’s, to the late Arthur L and Dorothy L Pearce. Lewis waspredeceased by his brothers Arthur Pearce, Walter Daniels and Eric Pearce and his sister Gail Nippard.
Leaving to mourn are his loving wife Rita of 52 years. His children Stephen (Crystal), Lisa and Derek. His grandchildren Kyle, Bradley, Amber, Bryce, JD, Josh (Allison), Jeffrey (Robin), Heinry Alverez. His siblings Dorothy Woodcock (Ron), Jessie Ann Lohens (Eldred), Ray (Joan), Claudia Drodge (Chess), Margaret Zeegers (Kees). Sisters in law Margaret (Peg) Pearce, Heidi Pearce and brother in law Wayne Nippard along with a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Lewis had a 28 year military career that first started in 1961 when he enrolled with the 56 Fd Sgn NFLD. His ,militia service also included time with the Royal NFLD Regt. He went on to enlist with the Canadian armed Forces in 1963 with the 2nd Battalion Canadian Guards where he stayed until 1966. During his time away from the military he met and married Rita Catherine Lawlor. Lewis reenlist in the Canadian Armed Forces in July 1969 as R.C.E.M.E. During his illustrious career he served overseas in Cyprus, 73 Cdn Svc Bn Egypt and 3 Svc Bn Baden and 3 RCR Baden. Within Canada he served in various postings that included: 12 Pers Depot Petawawa, 13 Pd Ottawa, CFSAOE Borden, CFSEME Borden and CFB Gander where he eventually retired.
After his retirement Lewis became a prominent figure in Gander through his work with the Shriners, Masons and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Family will be accepting friends at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Tuesday, January 14th from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Father William Hearn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lewis’ memory to Shriners Sick Children or Canadian Cancer Society or Charity of One’s Choice.
