Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Leota Isabell Cummins announces her peaceful passing on January 17th. She was born in Didsbury, AB to Fern and Albin Carlson, on December 14, 1924.
She is lovingly remembered by her children; Colleen Foster, Gail Duguid, Ron (Rhonda) Cummins, and Brenda Barrigan; her grandchildren; Mitch, Graham, and Shelley(Christian Tirabassi) Foster; Bradley (Marie Brook)Duguid; Patrick, Paul (Lauren Culver) Cummins, and Jennifer (Brenden) Beaudoin; Bonnie Barrigan (Rob Cook) and Robbie (Kim) Barrigan; great grandchildren; Jack and Joe Foster, Emma and Willet Foster, Victoria Foster Tirabassi, Rosalie Beaudoin, and Liam and Isabel Barrigan. Leota also leaves to mourn her sister Edris Mabley, brother Clarence Carlson, and many extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Cummins and sister Alice Ross.
Leota’s greatest joy was spending time with and talking with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She excelled at listening, slowing down to appreciate the flowers. She worked to conserve natural areas and helped plant thousands of trees and protected wildflowers on the family acreage west of Edmonton. She travelled and saw the world. She worked nights at the University of Alberta hospital newborn nursery for years, rocking babies in the quiet of night.
Following retirement, she became a talented photographer attending camera colleges across western Canada. She hiked the highest peaks to catch the views and to photograph meadows of wildflowers, mountain goats, sheep and even bears unaware of her quiet presence.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at 1 PM at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 street, Edmonton.
We will celebrate Leota’s life at a graveside gathering in Didsbury, Alberta in the summer.
Donations in memory of Leota may be made to the Wagner Natural Area Society or a charity of one’s choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Leota Cummins 2020..
