Layton’s Obituary
NICKERSON, Layton Ephriam – 89, of Clam Point, we the family are so deeply saddened and broken hearted to announce the death of our beloved father and husband, on August 10, 2020 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on May 19, 1931, he was a son of the late Thomas and Almeda (Brown) Nickerson. Layton was fondly known as The Bug (Buggy). He was the last born of a large family; we think they stopped at perfection. When he was of age he tried his fortune at many factories in Hamilton, ON. Born in Clam Point he moved one field over to marry the love of his life and raise his children. He worked for Wilson’s and Sears and would retire as a fisherman. Layton was a jack of all trades, a plumber and electrician fixing just about anything he set his hand on. After retirement he took a keen interest in gardening and supplied half of Clam Point and beyond with fresh veggies. He entered lots of his produce in the local exhibition and took home many red ribbons every year. He put up Christmas displays each year to raise money for IWK and later for the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund He also started shaving his head at the yearly walk to raise more. Over the last few months with restrictions Layton would be found counting the cars at the Stoney Island beach. He was at his best when he was teasing or pulling pranks on people hoping to get a laugh. He was a little man with a big heart and bigger personality and will be greatly missed by his vhf buddies, friends, and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Ann (Foote) Nickerson; brother, Ernest (Ellen) Nickerson; children, Ronnie Newell, David (Janie) Nickerson, Jeanne Nickerson (Michel Berube), Paula (Randell) Butler and Darren (Sam Kim partner and best friend)Nickerson; grandchildren, David (Kristie), Megan (Kale), Eddie (Crystal), Evan (Kate), Nichole (Luke), Jacob (Alicia), James (Jenn), Scott, Rondelle (Nick), Christina (Michael), Chasity (Nick) and Calvin (Jackie); many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Layton also leaves behind his furry friend, Annie. Besides his parents, Layton was predeceased by his siblings, Thomas (Alden), Claude, Elliott, Genevieve in infancy, Havlock, Norma Brown, Edsel, Sarah Roache, Julia and James; son-in-law, Robbie Jones. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 2-4 pm at the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A private family graveside will take place at Atlantic Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donation may be made to the IWK or Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund or charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
