It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lawrence Jesse William Morgan, age 99 of Robert’s Arm, NL announces his passing from the Springdale Retirement Centre, Springdale on Saturday, May 2, 2020.
Lawrence Jesse William Morgan was born November 24, 1920 in Jersey Harbour, Notre Dame Bay, NL, to Joseph and Ada (Short) Morgan.
Lawrence joined the British navy at the age of 19, was trained in Chatham England and served on the HMS Drake, Ganges, Pembroke, Speaker, Saker and Avalon lll; he was wounded in service but continued until the end of the war when he joined the merchant marines in Halifax for a while.
He moved to Montreal in 1947, met Jessie Belbin and attended Zion Bible College together; they were married in 1950 and had their first child a son, Cyril, in 1951. Their second child a girl, Donna would come along 10 years later.
Lawrence worked for the Northern Electric Company, Nortel, for 40 years as a machinist. Lawrence and Jessie were very involved with the Greenfield Park Pentecostal Church until Jessie’s passing in 1990. Lawrence moved, back home, in 1990 and started a new life in Roberts Arm, NL to be with his brothers and sister, now all deceased.
At the age of 75 Lawrence married Dorothy (Colbourne); they spent 15 years together until her death in 2010.
In 2011 Lawrence moved into the Springdale Retirement Center where he was able to live out the last years of his life to the fullest thanks to the great directors and staff who adopted him and treated him like their father. Through all his life Lawrence’s faith was his strength that never let him down, all who knew him would marvel at the strength of his character as well as the physical.
Lawrence loved to garden, hunt, fish and enjoy the great outdoors. He had many friends over his life but his son and daughter were his shining stars. He is and will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Ada Morgan; wife Jessie Morgan (nee Belbin); wife Dorothy Morgan (nee Colbourne); brothers Frederick Morgan, Harold Dawe, Wayne Morgan, Winston Morgan; sisters Hilda Cass, Elsie Reid.
Lawrence leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived, his son Cyril Morgan (France Desjardins); daughter Donna Morgan; grandchildren Jamie, Kevin Matthew (Megan), Christopher (Cassie), Robyn (Sarah); great-grandchildren Kallum, Markus, Isobel, Ranon, Duncan, Kevin; brother Jim Dawe, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be surely missed but not forgotten by his family and friends.
