Larry’s Obituary
BURKE, Larry William – age 72, Pleasant Lake, Yarmouth Co., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 13, 2020 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born January 25, 1948 in Sluice Point, he was a son of the late Evelyn (Burke) Smith. Larry was the manager of the Pleasant Lake Shell Station for the last 50 years, where he was still working at the time of his death. Prior to running the Shell station, he worked at the cotton mill in Yarmouth. He was a member of St. Ambrose Parish in Yarmouth, where he served as an usher, and was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Twin Village Social Club, volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program through the Rotary Club and helped the Salvation Army with the Christmas Kettle Campaign. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters and, being a lover of all things Christmas, enjoyed decorating the outside of their home for the holidays. Larry will be remembered as a fun-loving man who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joanne (Robicheau) Burke, as well as by their daughter, Stephanie (Dwayne), Chebogue and by granddaughters, Chelsea and Sophie. He is also survived by his uncle Simon Burke, The Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth, as well as by half brothers, Laurie, Robert, Randy and Terry Smith. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, with prayers at 7 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 17 from St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. The funeral Mass will be livestreamed though the St. Ambrose Parish website. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Please note that masks are mandatory, social distancing guidelines are in effect and seating may be limited at both the funeral home and the church (with family being given priority for seating). It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth SPCA.
