KOMARNISKY, Ronald Mitchell
—
Ron lived a very full and adventurous life. Born in Holden, Alberta in 1933 to Steve and Alexandra Komarnisky, Ron passed away after a short illness on July 23 at Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 86.
He is survived by his loving wife Nita; daughter Deborah (Kenn) Gordon; son David Kaye; grandchildren Kelsey (Ryan) Corbett, Mackenzie Gordon, Ryan Komarnisky, and Derek Komarnisky; his great-grandchildren Cooper and Parker Corbett; as well as his sister Sylvia (Igor) Lozynsky. He was predeceased by his son Stephen Komarnisky in 2019.
After finishing high school, he became a member of the R.C.M.P. and then joined the R.C.A.F as a fighter pilot. However, both those careers were eclipsed by his true entrepreneurial spirit expressed in the world of business.
His business life began with a Chicken Delight restaurant in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which morphed into a chain of A & W restaurants – the first in Canada. These led him out west to British Columbia, where he continued his entrepreneurship through mining adventures, other restaurants, and even a helicopter company. He loved nothing better than the opportunity for a new experience.
Ron and Nita moved to Southern California in 1978, where Ron was in the world of Real Estate. They returned to Kelowna in 2000, where Ron continued to find interesting business opportunities all through his “retired” life.
Ron and Nita would have been married 65 years this coming September. Should family and friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Centre for Spiritual Living Kelowna www.cslkelowna.org.
