Obituary of Kenneth Donald Banks
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Kenneth Donald Banks in the early hours of Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at home surrounded by the family. Ken was born on March 13, 1941 in Bakers Point, NB to Raymond and Mae (Clark) Banks.
Ken was married to Maryella (Kimball) Banks and together they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on October 5th. They met at Riverside Wesleyan Camp in Maine, and attended Bethany Bible College in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and were married by the ocean in East Ferry, Nova Scotia. They have 3 children; Melanie (Dave) Doucet, Rev. Kenneth (April) Banks Jr., and Liane (Dale) Curtis. The grandchildren are; Heidi (John) Rice, Alexandra (Jeremy) Haley, Marcail Curtis (Ken Steeves) , Isaac Curtis, Cobly, Adasa, and Brayden Banks; Great Grandchildren; Rayne and Micah Rice, Audrey Haley, Adyanna and Hunter Steeves.
Ken came from a family of 9 siblings; Billy (Gayle) Banks, Joan (deceased) (Pat) Peterson, Doug (Nora) Banks, Betty (Jim, deceased) White, Barb (Dave) Wilson, Larry (deceased) Judy Banks, Danny (deceased) (Barb), Carol (deceased) Banks.
Ken was employed as a teenager at Rickards Meat Market in Barkers Point, later with the NB Power Commission, and NB Telephone Company. He also worked in Indiana for 5 years with Hoosier Engineering Company. Ken was a member of Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church in Barkers Point, near where grew up. He filled many places of service as a Gideon, Choir/Song Leader, Sunday he School Teacher, Board Member, and so much more.
Ken leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and in-laws from the Banks and Kimball families who loved him very much. He loved to go hunting with his son, father, brothers, and uncles. He loved going to our family cottage at Riverside Camp, in Maine, where our kids grew up in the summertime. Ken and Maryella were sweethearts to the end, he was “My Man”, and she was his “Myrt”.
There will be a funeral service at York Funeral Home on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 4 pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is by invitation only, with family. Masks and social distancing are mandatory. So we can share with others, the service will be live-streamed by York Funeral Home and video copies will be available later through Nick Wilson Videography. A burial service will take place on Saturday, October 31st, at noon, at the Royalton Community Cemetery in Royalton, NB, with Rev. Kenneth Banks officiating. The family wishes to thank the Extramural nurses and doctors who helped keep Ken at home during the late stages of Alzheimer’s. For those who wish to make a donation in Kens memory, the family would appreciate it go to the New Brunswick Alzheimer’s Association or the Canadian Hemophilia Society.
