Kenneth McCormac 2020 avis de deces

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Ken, who left us January 28, 2020, at the age of 90, to be with his loving wife, Valerie. Ken was also predeceased by his sisters Sheila, Val and Colleen (Toby), and step-brother Dennis.
Left to mourn is his niece, Charlotte (Foeke) in Amsterdam; nephew, Jasper (Monica) in France; goddaughter Maria (Andy) in St. Albert; and their families; extended family in California; and long-time friends and neighbours.
Ken was born in Bournemouth, England and grew up in Sus, Cornwall and Isle of Wight. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the army and later served in the Rifle Brigade of the BAOR (British Army of the Rhine) in post war Germany. Fascinated by the Klondike Gold Rush, in 1951 Ken immigrated to Canada. He initially settled in interior BC where he worked in the Okanagan Valley apple orchards and as an ordinary seaman on tugboats operating on Lake Okanagan. After recovering from a serious back injury, he moved to Edmonton, where he started working in sales. In 1956, enticed by the attractive salary, Ken spent 6 months in Cambridge Bay working as an airplane mechanic on the DEW Line. The following year he returned to Edmonton and joined Melton Real Estate where he met Valerie, the love of his life. Ken continued his career in sales with Miller Stationers – later Miller Office Group – for 36 years, where he made lifelong friends. In his leisure time Ken read stories of the Old West, collected guns, and enjoyed going to the firing range, hunting and gardening. He also built intricate models of WWII navy ships, one of which is displayed at the H.M.C.S. Nonsuch in Edmonton.
We will greatly miss Ken’s wit and British sense of humour, his poetic side, the impromptu songs, and the stories of his youth.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held.
We would like to thank the staff at Kipnes Centre for Veterans for their compassionate care, kindness, and support during the past year.
