Obituary
Karen Marie (Gillen) Keating loving daughter of the late James Charles Gillen and Alice Marie Harley hopes to have gone to a better place.
She is survived by her sons Peter Keating (Rhonda) and Jim Keating (Shelly), along with her loving granddaughters who spent a good deal of time with her. Kourtney Marie Keating (Jared) and Katelyn Marie Keating (Justin), the K.M.K’s.
Also survived by her brother’s Jack Gillen deceased (Sandra), Brian Gillen (Wilma) of Milton, ON, Paul Gillen (Pauline), Gary Gillen (Sharon) and her sister Corinne Kierstead (Gary) and special sister Kelsey Williams (Mark Black). There are many nieces, nephews and cousins with fond memories as well.
Karen taught in area schools and spent the last 26 years of her career at Bayview School. She retired in June 2003 but still could be found at the school on occasion. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, PROBUS, the Wednesday retired teachers’ group, the Rothesay Golfettes, bridge club, the Red Hat group with whom she enjoyed the newfound sport of golf. She was fortunate to have many activities and friends that kept her active and busy in her later life.
Bowling was also a large part of her life as long as she was able to participate but then carried on keeping score. As well she worked many years with Can-Am and the Alpines.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Parish. She rewarded herself with a weekly visit to her hairdresser Angie, also Amy Winchester who became the daughter she never had, pampered her by doing a monthly manicure and pedicure. She enjoyed the summer days of reading and music in her screen room or ‘happy place’ as her ‘dollies’ called it.
She had been blessed to have good friends, some who have gone before her. She hoped to be remembered as doing for others and helping out whenever possible. She wanted people to try to be & forgiving of others and always kept family close.
God Bless
