KAMITOMO
August 15, 1928 – April 17, 2020
“Dad didn’t tell us how to live; he lived and let us watch him do it.
He was always there for Mom and us through good times and bad.
We will always remember you Dad because there will never be
another one to replace you in our hearts and the love that we will
always have for you.”
DOUGLAS
SABURO KAMITOMO passed away peacefully at Good Samarian in Raymond on Friday
April 17th at the age of 91. It is with heavy hearts and great
sadness that we say goodbye to a man who exemplified what it meant to be a
husband, father and grandfather.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his
wife of 64 years, Alice Kamitomo, his children Mark (Theresa) Kamitomo, Cindy
(Barry) Littlemore, Gary (Lorri) Kamitomo and Sandra (Mike) Burns. Additionally
his grandchildren, Taylor (Sierra) Kamitomo, Kelsey Kamitomo, Kiley Kamitomo, Brandon
Littlemore, Graeme Littlemore, Jesse Kamitomo, Travis Kamitomo, Mika Burns and
Koby Burns.
He
was predeceased by his parents Hide (Tanaka) and Isijiro Kamitomo as well as
his siblings, Fran Uchida, John Kamitomo and Ken Kamitomo. He is survived by
his wife Alice and his youngest brother Roy Kamitomo.
Doug
was born in Port Moody BC following his parents immigration to Canada from
Kagoshima Japan. At an early age he and his family were interned outside of
Nelson BC. His father Isijiro passed away while interned. Following the war,
his mother Hide opted not to return to Japan and the family was relocated to
Raymond AB where they remained until Doug’s passing. He and his brothers owned
and operated the first Japanese Canadian owned Ford Dealership (Raymond Motors)
until their retirement in 1987 after 38 years of business. In addition to
Raymond Motors, the brothers owned and operated Highway Texaco which later
became Highway Esso along with the Kamitomo Brothers farm located outside of
Raymond. Doug spent most of his retirement along with his wife Alice visiting
his children, grandchildren, traveling and playing golf. He was extremely proud
of his family and considered them (particularly his grandchildren) his greatest
accomplishments.
Unfortunately due to the onset of Alzheimer’s Doug moved into Good Samaritan in Raymond where he remained until his passing. Although his memory slipped away on many things, he never forgot his wife Alice or his brothers. The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at Good Samaritan whose kindness and caring for Doug made the last years of his life ones of peace and happiness. He had a smile on his face until the very end. Because of the COVID 19 epidemic, a service has been deferred and will be scheduled in the near future once the restrictions are lifted. In the interim, the family requests that in lieu of flowers and Koden, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta or another charity or entity of your choice in memory of Doug.
