1932-2020
June Maxine (Beatty) Smith, 87, of Durham, passed away Feb.
1, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in Upham, New Brunswick, she graduated from nursing at
the Saint John General Hospital in 1957. She worked in maternity at
the Aberdeen Hospital and dearly loved all the little ones in her
care.
June was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; sister, Myrene
Sherwood; and brother, Sonny Beatty. She is survived by her sister,
Cheryl Dempster; her four children: Beverly Sutherland (Gordon), Jane
Ryan (Sonny), Susan Fraser (Tom), Chuck Smith; eight grandchildren:
Vicki Sutherland (Andrew), Erin Sutherland Halasz (Andrew), Matthew
Ryan, Nicolas Ryan, Emma Ryan, April Fraser, William Fraser, Jahred
Smith; one great-grandchild, Lily Burvill; and many nieces and
nephews, aunts and cousins.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening, knitting, quilting, painting
and picking berries and fiddleheads. She loved nature, science and the
arts. She will be missed by all who knew her for her caring,
compassionate nature and sweet personality.
Service to be held at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont
Ave., New Glasgow on Wednesday, February 5th at 11am, with Rev. Mary
Anne Grant officiating. Interment in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at a
later date. Family flowers only please. Donations can be made to the
West River Presbyterian Church, Durham or a charity of your
choice.
