June McKay
1953-2020
It is with great sadness that the family of June Elizabeth
McKay announces her passing which occurred on Tuesday, September 22,
2020. Born in Passekeag, NB, on June 2, 1953, she was a daughter of
the late Gordon and Jessie (Lyon) McConchie.
June was born two houses up the road from the farm and
remained on the family farm until her passing. This
instilled a great connection to the community, where she served as a
volunteer with the Hampton Ambulance for many years before
turning her passion into a career with Ambulance NB. She
worked as a Paramedic until her retirement in January of this
year.
June had many interests including a love of all things
artsy. She ran Breeze Crest Ceramics with her
sister. Her signature name for her creations, from ceramic
pieces to personal paintings, was “June Bug”, which
continued to be her nickname by many.
She loved farm life and the animals, particularly horses and
cattle. In her younger years she was seen showing both
horses and cattle in the ring at exhibitions in Sus, Saint John,
Gagetown and Fredericton. She was a 4H leader and judged
horse shows around the area. She was known for her blue and
sequined parade attire and parade saddle.
June also had a love for singing and sharing odes with her
patients, family and friends.
June is survived by her loving husband, Melbourne; children:
Melody McKay (Garth Trainor), and Malcolm McKay (Courtney), both of
Passekeag; nephew, Brian Chase; and niece, Mona Hachey. In addition to
her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Bernice Chase; and
brother-in-law, Osborne Chase.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral
Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation
will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM. A
private service will be held at a later date.
With June’s passion for the local community, and
being a Paramedic, keep in mind that donations in her memory may be
made to a local charity of the donor’s choice, Atlantic Burn
Camp, or Hampton United Church. Personal condolences to the family and
donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
