Obituary
With sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of our much loved mother, grandmother and friend. She left us on January 1st, 2020 after a brief illness.
Mom was born near Tisdale, Saskatchewan on June 1, 1930. She lived her early years mostly in Valparaiso, Birch River and Winnipeg.
When she was 16 years old, her family provided room and board to a young soldier, returned from the war and attending university in Winnipeg. Two years later, at the age of 18 years and 5 days, she married that soldier. Together they created a life rich in friends, family, experiences and memories.
Mom was a truly amazing woman. She worked tirelessly over her lifetime, supporting and nurturing the people she loved. It seemed whenever Dad accepted a position, joined an organization or volunteered for an event, she naturally stepped in to help, doing whatever was necessary to ensure success. Strong-willed, determined and courageous, she never backed down from anything that came her way. Even in her later years, she challenged life just as surely as life challenged her. She was hardwired to persevere and move forward. The words ‘give up’ and ‘cannot’ were not in her vocabulary. She remained proudly independent and very much in charge, right to the last, when she decided enough was enough, it was time to move on.
She was predeceased by Omar, her husband of 64 years in 2012. She is very sadly missed by her children; Jeanne, Keith (Louise), Jennifer (Rick) and Gerald (Delores), her grandchildren; Tanya, Dan, Chris, Mark, Kris, Tabitha, Tarrie, Jeff and James, and her 12 great grandchildren. She had life long friends in Ruth and Merv Caldwell and Ingar Constant and they are indeed part of our family.
