Joy Cassidy
1941-2020
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of
Joy Cassidy. She died peacefully with her
loving daughter, Lesley, by her side on May 7 at the Cumberland
Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Thornaby-On-Tees, Middlesbrough, UK on January 19,
1941, she was the only child of William and Edith
Gordon.
She is survived by son Michael (Donna) Truro, NS; daughters
Sharon, Fredericton, NB and Lesley Belyea, Amherst, NS; as well as
four beloved grandchildren, Stephen Belyea (Adrienne), Halifax, NS,
Ryanne Belyea, Amherst, NS, Michelle Cassidy, Dartmouth, NS and Kayla
Cassidy, Truro, NS.
She was predeceased by her parents, by her loving husband of
59 years, John Cassidy and son-in-law Bruce Belyea of Amherst. Joy and
her family came to Canada in 1967 when John joined the staff of the
Technical University of Nova Scotia (now DalTech).
Joy was a happy homemaker. If her family was happy, she was
happy. She loved to cook and make sure her family had three square
meals a day. Her family always came first. Although she may not have
enjoyed ironing, she would spend hours doing it. Even the towels and
bed sheets got ironed! Joy loved children and children loved her. She
always had children in the house to care for even when her own
children were young.
Joy never missed an Episode of Coronation Street. It was her
favourite show. She also loved Celtic music and Scottish humour. She
loved watching John and his friends perform in their group named
Ceilidh. She was a true groupie! Although she couldn’t hold
a tune, she enjoyed singing along anyway!
Joy took great pride in watching Stephen play hockey and
Ryanne basketball as well as both of them participating in track and
field events. She was among their biggest fans. It always warmed her
heart to share special occasions with them as well as Michelle and
Kayla.
To know Joy was to love her. She had a kind, tender and
loving soul. She was always smiling and
loved to laugh
while living life to the fullest.
Although our hearts are broken we are thankful her suffering
is over and that she gets to reunite with her
soulmate. “Cancer may have taken your
body, and your mind, but your Spirit will live long with all the souls
you touched while you were here with us.” Joy will be deeply
loved and missed forever and always by her family and
friends.
