PIKE, Josephine P. (nee Sparkes) – Josephine “Jose” Pike (nee Sparkes) passed peacefully away in the presence of her family on July 20, 2020 at St Patrick’s Mercy Home. She was 87. Jose was a loving and caring mother to five children: Carol (Ottawa, ON), Rosalind (Salmon Arm, BC), Alice (John Hollohan), Keith (Holly Crocker), Robert (Shirley Crane); eleven grandchildren: Philip, Justin, Karen, Jenelle, Rebecca, Robyn, Kimberley, Nicholas, Annie, Morgan and James; as well as ten great-grandchildren: Max, Maddy, Cloe, Gabby, Sunny, Samier, India, Alexander, Mia, and Madison. Born in Saunders Cove, Bonavista Bay, Jose was the daughter of the late Hedley and Matilda Sparkes; sister of Shirley (deceased), Edgar (deceased), Edward (deceased) and Ralph. Preceded in death by her second husband Fred Pike of Corner Brook, her first husband George Crocker of Gander, and her grandson MCpl. Matthew Crocker-Fitzpatrick, of Ottawa, ON. Jose became a Nurse’s Assistant, CNA, after raising her children and with her late husband Fred, served with the United Church Lay Ministry program in Englee, Elliston and Hillview. Mom was a fiercely determined and loving woman. Her bright smile, zest for dress, love for music and life will be missed every day. Her family extends a huge heartfelt thank you and hug to the dedicated staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home who cared for her with endless compassion. Mom spent her happy recent years there and at Kenny’s Pond Retirement Home. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 31st, at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John’s, from 10 am – 2 pm. A service to celebrate Jose’s life will follow at 2pm in Barrett’s Funeral Chapel. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed. To view, please follow the link provided on Barrett’s website the day of the funeral service. Interment will take place the next day, August 1st, at 2:00 pm in Gander at All Saints Cemetery.
