It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Edward Higgins announce his passing on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Corner Brook Long Term Care at the age of 92 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Melita (nee Brown); son Bob Higgins; daughter-in-law Lois Higgins; step-children: Tony Spurrell (Daphne), Sterling Spurrell, Randy Spurrell (Susan), Roy Spurrell (Lily), Karen Allen (Glenn) and Lisa Russell (Max); brothers: Billy Higgins (Violet) and Albert Higgins (Dorothy); sister Violet Stoyles (Max); as well as a large circle of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Mildred Higgins (nee Penney), parents Gertrude (nee Snow) and William Arthur Higgins, sisters Doris Gushue (Peter), Mary Higgins, Julie Gushue (Jim) and Freda Warren (Bill), step-daughter-in-law Lillian Spurrell. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Saturday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Michael’s and All Anglican Church, Park Drive with Rev. Roberta Woodman officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to 3 South, Corner Brook Long Term Care.
