It is with great sadness that the family of John Patrick (Pat) Pentony, 95, of Halifax and formerly of Bridgewater announces his passing on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Tubercurry, Ireland, he was the son of the late John and Sarah (Gibbons) Pentony.
Pat started his seagoing career at the age of 14 and served with the Merchant Marines. He trained as a butcher in Ireland with Cunard Steamship Company and then immigrated to Canada in 1952 and became a Canadian Citizen in 1960. He continued to go to sea as a cook, engineer and electrician and in later years deep sea fishing and foreign tankers until his retirement. Pat was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 24, Bridgewater.
Pat is survived by his daughter, Deborah Pentony, Bridgewater; sons, Patrick Pentony (Gail Nauss), Garden Lots; John (Marie) Pentony, Paradise, NS; sister, Elizabeth Ashford, England; step-brother, Raymond, South Hampton, England; grandsons, Kyle (Carla) Reinhardt and John Pentony, great grand-daughters, Mollie, Ashley and Grace.
He was predeceased by his 1st wife, Mary Pittman, his 2nd wife, Florence Warren and companion, Eleanor Reinhardt.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A gathering to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Poppy Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 24, Bridgewater or to Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital Recreation Fund.
