John Murray Geddes
Born April 16, 1923, Pilot Mound,
Manitoba. Dad, Papa, Murray will be enormously missed by his daughter,
Jane Grant; daughter-in-law, Nell Geddes; granddaughters, Ashley
Grant, Jenny Jukes (Graeme), Amy McKee (Shannon) and Carrie Meagher
(Brad); great grandchildren, Scott, Lucas, Peyton, Finlay, Elise, Evan
and last but not least, baby Clara. He is predeceased by his wife,
Peggy and his son, John.
Murray was not only a gentle man, but
a very special gentleman, whose wonderful wit and sense of humour
endeared him to everyone he met. He was always surrounded by the love
of his family and friends. Dad was so appreciative of every kindness
shown to him.
Murray joined the Royal Canadian Air
Force in 1942 as a pilot. He had great pride as a flight instructor
and felt very privileged to have flown many types of aircraft. He
graduated from Western University with a degree in Business, where he
met his wife, Peggy Fisher.
Throughout his life, he and Mom lived
in 52 different homes all over Canada, as well as 5 years in Colorado
Springs on special assignment with NORAD Command which was the
highlight of his time in the Air Force. After a long, successful
career, he retired from the Military at 48, only to start a new career
as Registrar at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. Murray retired
again at age 59 and moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he started a
water purification business. He so enjoyed the weather and beaches, as
did his family and friends who came often to
visit.
After moving back to Ontario in 2003,
to be close to his son, John and family, Murray enjoyed many wonderful
times at the cottage and made many very special new friends in his new
community at Briar Hill, Barrie, Ontario. He was then off again to
discover the Maritimes and moved to Moncton to be close to his
daughter, Jane and her family. Murray was blessed with a very full
life filled with an abundance of love from all who knew
him.
A very special Thank You to all the
staff at Veterans who took such gentle loving care, always showing Dad
such compassion and kindness and who treated us like family. We will
be forever grateful.
A family tribute for Murray will be
held at a later date. Interment will be in London,
Ontario.
