Memorial Donation
On March 15, 2020, John Gerald (Gerry) MacDonell – “Jeddy” of Port Hood, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Gerry was born to parents Archie Neil and Marcella (Christie) MacDonell on December 31, 1934. He was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Port Hood. He had countless fond memories about growing up in Glencoe Station with his many siblings. He left home at an early age to find work in Ontario where he met and married Mary MacNeil. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before her passing in 2014. Gerry had a successful career as a Boilermaker – a long time member of Union Local 128. His work with the boilermakers took him and his family to many parts of the country. He loved to talk about the jobs he worked on and the many people he worked with. Family was very important to Gerry, and his door was always open to visitors. At times, his home was like Central Station for family and friends visiting from near and far. He loved playing cards, horseshoes, and “discussing” politics and current events. He never lost an argument. Gerry is survived by his loving family: children Lenny (Mary), Darlene Cameron (Barry), Ronnie (Debbie) and Kevin (Tanya); his grandchildren Neil (Crystal), Clayton, Katie, Brittany, Noah, Terryn and Mathew; great grandchildren Parker and Hailey; brothers Martin (Yvonne), Jackie (Peggy) and Colin (Nongyao); Sisters Tina MacNeil (Donnie-dec), Sharon MacDonald (Bobby) and Kathleen MacDonald (Danny); brother inlaws Duncan MacNeil (Linda), Stanley MacNeil (Margie-dec) and Don Dunlop (Theresa-dec); and many nieces and nephews. Gerry is predeceased by his wife Mary; his brothers Angus (Margie-dec), Francis (Catherine-dec), Blaise (Tina) and Ronnie; and sister, Annita Young (Gordie). “You’re dancing with mom, walking in new life” Regrettably, due to the Covid 19 outbreak, memorial services will be held at a later date. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Inverness Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion. Memorial donations made be made to Inverness Palliative Care PO Box 610 Inverness, NS B0E 1N0 or a charity of your choice Funeral Arrangements are under the Care and Direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St. Port Hawkesbury.
