Obituary
The children of John George Nassr of Windsor, Ontario, are deeply saddened to announce his passing on the 4th of May, 2020.
John was born to Joseph and Rose Nassr and grew up with his beloved brother and best friend, Donald (d.2016) and his sisters, Joanne, Cathy and Sandy (d.2019).
John’s early years were spent working long hours at his father’s famed Nassr Fruit Company while attending Assumption High School. He had a passion for building model airplanes and at 12 years old, “Mighty John” became the youngest member accepted into the Windsor Model Aircraft Club.
He graduated from the University of Detroit in 1956 as an Aeronautical Engineer, then moved to Montreal to start his career and family life. He worked at Canadair developing the still used CL-215 water bomber. He designed the first ever T-tail on a military jet, the iconic Snowbirds Tutor CL-41, to name a few of his early accomplishments.
In 1971, John began his first company in the basement of his home, Canadian Advanced Production Consultants (CAPC) which later grew into a much larger company, Integrated Computer Aided Manufacturing Technologies (ICAM); a world renowned company whose successes continue to be run by his son today.
John was an entrepreneur and a brilliant businessman whose every move was guided by his well-founded principles and his love for his family. He was a hard-working man whose countless successes in life and career were fueled by his passion and drive to “do it right”. His career spanned over five decades, from designing aircraft, to optimizing production and automation processes, to designing engineering software.
He presented professional papers at conferences and universities throughout North America and Asia, and lectured and taught at McGill university. As a recognised expert in his field, he was frequently asked to consult for the Canadian government on building Canada’s manufacturing sector by recommending funding and tax incentive policies. He shared his expertise with many struggling manufacturing companies who were brought back to health following his sound advice. He regularly coached startup businesses in all fields on good business practices for success–an act rarely seen and almost impossible to follow.
John lived his retirement years in the beautiful house he designed and built in Amherstburg. He spent his time staying current with science and technology and especially enjoyed analyzing the stock markets, mastering yet another endeavor! He loved playing golf, reading, music and hosting family reunions.
His outgoing personality won the hearts of all of those he encountered. His clever wit, amazing sense of humour and contagious laughter brought so much joy to many. His doors were always opened to family and friends and his generosity was endless. He was gracious and kind to everyone and will always be regarded as a true gentleman.
John fell ill with cancer in January yet never complained. He maintained a loving and positive attitude amidst some very challenging battles.
He is survived by his five children; Jamie, John, Jody, Jocelyne and Josanne; twelve grand children, two great grandchildren, his two sisters, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends, all for whom he had boundless love and support.
He died peacefully, surrounded by the love of his children and the beauty of the outdoors in springtime. He will forever be remembered with great respect and admiration, for the exemplary man he was at all levels.
The details of a future church service along with a celebration of John’s life, will be announced once the current pandemic restrictions are lifted.
