John Allen Petroff
It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of John Petroff on April 8, 2020, 88 years old of Manitoulin Island and formally of Capreol. Predeceased by his parents Pete and Anna Petroff of Brent. Survived by his wife Marilyne (nee Stein), son’s Bryan (Cathy), Terry (Ann Marie), Allan (predeceased) and Donny (Cindy). Cherished grandfather of Elliott, Issic, Paul (Priscilla), Shannon (Jeremy VanDenbroek), Russell, Avery and Savannah. Dear brother of Eileen Deering (Jack) from Ottawa both predeceased and brother in law of Donna and Robert Mersereau. Dear uncle of Adele Deering (Jim Tays) and their children Peter and Aaryn and Jeffery (Marlenee) Deering. John started his railroad career as a Hostler in Capreol then went to Hornepayne to become a Locomotive Engineer. He moved back to Capreol as an engineer for 38 years, retiring in 1989. John enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening and spending time at their summer home on Manitoulin Island and his beloved homestead in Brent (Cedar Lake). A celebration of Life will be held at a future date when the restrictions for Covid-19 have been lifted. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
