Memorial Donation
In loving memory of Carol Joan Lichty (nee Ostman), who after a short battle with cancer passed away in Dryden Regional Hospital on Friday, January 24, 2020 with family by her side.
Carol is survived by her daughters Gina (David) Felske, Lisa (Jeff) Euler, grandchildren Courtney Felske (Kyson), Melissa (Mike) English,Cameron and Travis Euler; great grandsons Ritchie and Owen English. Carol is also survived by her siblings Judy (Reg) Crigger, Ruth (Len) Pateman, Gail Ostman, Wally (Sandy) Ostman and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Wilma and Rangvald Ostman, Larry Lichty and her son Randy Lichty.
Carol was born October 6, 1946 in Dryden to Wilma and Rangvald Ostman. She went to the one room school room in Eton-Rugby until Grade 8 then on to Dryden High School. She was always good at math and bookkeeping and balanced her cheque book to the penny. In her teenage years she worked at the Thunderbird Motel on Hwy 17, and numerous other jobs throughout the years before having kids. In 1964 Carol married Larry and later they had 3 children: Gina, Randy and Lisa, who were raised on the farm on Parker Road. As well as raising the kids and looking after the home, she was the bookkeeper for Lichty Construction.
Carol and Larry made the farm house into a wonderful, loving home, always welcoming family and friends for coffee and sandwiches and dainties on a Sunday afternoon or if they came later, a big family supper. While everyone sat around laughing and visiting, she would be seen in the kitchen busily preparing food for everyone. She was proud of her home and enjoyed the beautiful big yard that surrounded her.
Carol had many hobbies. She was very creative and knitted or crocheted many an afghan, sweater, pillowcover, toque or mitts. She loved bright colours and flowers and if she wasn’t gardening she was drying them out for flower arrangements. Over the years Carol had made many Christmas decorations for her tree as well as her children’s Christmas trees. She would volunteer making crafts or bird houses when her kids and grandkids attended Oxdrift School. When her mother lived in Princess Court, she decorated for every season as well as helped look after the flowers in the court yard and at 10 Victoria.
Carol was also the family historian. Keeping in touch with the relatives from Sweden or the Lichty relatives in Southern Ontario, she compiled many photo albums of all the family members. If you had a question about family history, she was the one to ask. Carol was genuinely concerned and interested in what her family was up to, and loved seeing the grandkids, great grand kids, nephews and nieces, she looked forward to the visits.
Carol looked forward to spending every summer at Blue Lake with her family, where a lot of special memories were made.
Thank you to family and friends who visited or sent cards, emails, phone calls to mom during her illness, she was very grateful. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Dryden Regional Hospital for mom’s care during her stay there.
A Funeral Service to Celebrate Carol’s life will be held Thursday January 30th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Moffat Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with Pastor Velma Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Dryden Cemetery.
