Obituary
Jean Lillian Thorburn (nee Butler) passed away peacefully on October 22, 2020 at the age of 88. Predeceased by her Mother, Thora Butler (nee Morgan, 1980), Father (Eugene Croker, 1933) Step Father (Earl Butler, 1993) and Stepsister, Lorraine (Corky) Butler (2015).
Loving mother of William Robin Thorburn (Clare), Scott Allen Thorburn and Jill Elizabeth Waldo, all of Alberta.
Dear grandmother to Graeme Thorburn (Samantha), Colin Thorburn (Megan), James Waldo (Bailey) and Jordan Waldo. Also survived by three great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Jean was an Air Force wife who eventually took on a very rewarding 20 year career with Canada Post. She was a lover of Jazz and dancing, a volunteer to the Edmonton community, and was always a gracious host who enjoyed entertaining and surprising family and friends with her culinary delights. Her many interests included golf, reading, watching figure skating, and shopping for good sales. She will always be remembered as a strong, independent, classy and charming woman who loved her family and will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Jean has now reunited with those she held dear and have passed on before her, welcoming her with glass in hand and heard saying, “What took you so long? Let’s dance!”
As per Jean’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered at a later date. In lieu of Flowers, memorial donations in Jean’s name can be made to the Good Samaritan Stony Plain Care Centre, 4800 – 55 Avenue, Stony Plain, Alberta, T7Z 1P9, where Jean resided and received outstanding care during her final years.
The following poem was chosen by Jean.
Miss Me, But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me
I want no tears in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little but not to long and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me and let me go.
For this is a journey that we must take and each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Master’s plan. A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart see the family and friends we know
Take time to heal ‘tho we must part. Miss me then let me go.
