Obituary
Isabelle Schykulski of Dauphin passed away on April 23, 2020, at the Dauphin Personal Care Home, at the age of 89 years.
Isabelle was born at Ochre River on July 23, 1930 to Leonard and Therese Berkvens. She attended Roxton School, Ste. Rose High School, Winnipeg Normal School and Brandon University. She taught school for 27 years, mostly in the Dauphin-Ochre School Division.
Isabelle married Stanley Schykulski of Sifton on July 8, 1953. They lived in Sifton, operating Schykulski’s Grocery Store and Radio & T.V. In 1992 they also received the licence to operate the liquor vendor.
They have two sons, Edward of Devon, Alberta and Kenneth of Winnipeg.
In December of 1972 her husband Stan passed away. Isabelle continued teaching and with hired help continued to operate the business for five years. In September of 1977 she sold the business and moved to Dauphin where she continued teaching until her retirement in 1990.
Isabelle enjoyed travelling and went on several tours through Canada, the United States, Europe, and Chile, as well as an Alaskan cruise.
After her retirement she devoted much of her time to various types of volunteer work in the community.
She was a member of St. Viator’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s League, the Retired Teacher’s Association, Multi-Purpose Senior’s Centre, Mall-Walkers, and the Senior’s Exercise Group.
Isabelle was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1972, her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and daughter-in-law.
Left to mourn and cherish fond memories are her sons Edward of Devon, Alberta, Kenneth (Danielle) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, sisters Mary and Florence Berkvens of Dauphin, and Madeline Nystrom of Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Albert Jack Schykulski of Edmonton, Alberta, eight nephews and three nieces, and one step grandson, Eduardo, of Devon, Alberta.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Dauphin Personal Care Home and Peace of Mind Companion Care for their help over the past years.
