Obituary for
H.W. “Bill” Langille
Langille, Harold William “Bill”, of Little Dyke Lake and formerly of Earltown, Nova Scotia. Bill passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family due to an aggressive cancer on Sunday, April 12, 2020. Bill was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, June 18th, 1944. He was the son of Marshall and Mabel (Tattrie) Langille. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Elizabeth Anne “Libby” (Wasson) and his children; Deborah (Harvey) MacEachern and son Robert Langille, his granddaughters Riley, Emma and Marly MacEachern, his brother Don Langille and his children Michelle (Kevin) McKone, Mike (Colleen) Langille and Jeremy Langille. Bill is also survived by his extended family Edwin (Laura) Reynolds and their children Elle and Robbie.
Bill’s police career started in Truro in 1964, he and his wife and young family moved to Ontario in 1967 where he was a police officer with the Ontario Provincial Police and served in Kemptville, Pickle Lake, Brockville, Ignace and West Carleton. Upon his retirement from the OPP, Bill and Libby moved back to Nova Scotia and enjoyed 25 years at “The Farm”. In 1999, he was elected as the PC MLA for Colchester North and served this constituency for two terms and retired from politics in 2006. A very proud moment for Bill was while he was Chair of the House Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, he and his committee named Highway 102 the Veterans Memorial Highway (November, 2000). He was a long standing member of the Masonic Lodge in Londonderry and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Tatamagouche Branch. On Bill’s behalf, donations may be made to the Earltown Cemetery or the Colchester SPCA. At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral but there will be a Graveside Service at the Earltown Cemetery for friends and family at a later date.
