Herman’s Obituary
NICKERSON, Herman “Layton”- 87, of the Roseway Manor, Shelburne, NS, passed away peacefully, January 18, 2020, with family by his side. Born October 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Bernard and Doris (Stoddard) Nickerson. Layton loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, ducking and clamming. He spent many summers camping at Louis Head Beach Campground and visiting all the wharves. Layton started his working career in New Brunswick and then returned back home to Cape Island to earn a living as a fisherman. He also spent time on Seal Island with his son-in-law, Clayton Penney and daughter Amber, helping them with the running of the Light House. Layton is survived by his brother, Bernard of Shelburne; children, Amber, Lynn, Rodney (Debbie). Thomas (Debbie), Tanya (Lloyd); 10 grandchildren, Marina (Joey) Williams, Jessie MacDonald, Rachel Nickerson, Morgan Christie, Burton (Darlene) King, Courtney, Alex, Benjamin Nickerson, Kasheena, Kandace Smith; and 7 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Ross) Nickerson; sister, Betty Mayer of Toronto, ON; sons-in-law, Clayton Penney, Troy Smith; and grandson, Stacey Penney. The family would like to thank the staff of the Manor for their great care of Layton and their kindness shown to his children. There will be a funeral service held Wednesday, January 22, 2 p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Pastor Ron Clark officiating. Interment to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, The Hawk. It has been requested there be family flowers only. Memorial donations in his name may be made to a charity of your choice.
