Obituary of Herbert George Stroh
Herbert Stroh, beloved husband of the late Gertrude Stroh of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the age of 86 years.
He emigrated from Germany in the year 1957.
He was a member of the Cal-O-Rail Club. He also volunteered at the Glenbow Museum in late 1982-83 working on the Great CPR Exposition O Scale.
Herbert had a passion for building his own model railroad layout in the basement of his home with the help of his friends and club members.
Herbert’s most memorable vacation was when he and our mom drove down to Arizona and Las Vegas. They loved going for walks in the desert with their dog Hansi. He enjoyed many trips out to Banff and all of the surrounding mountains.
He will be most remembered for his love of nature on the hiking trails and building his own train engines for his home layout.
Herbert is survived by his three daughters, Gitta (Harold), Gundi (Robert), Jane (Dave) and his son Jim (Leanne); eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID- 19 a private family gathering will be taking place.

My deepest sympathies to the family and all who knew Herb
Herb and I were friends for over 35 years, and in that time he introduced me to modeling Canadian trains in O Scale.
Seeing Herb’s models pushed me to be a better modeler.
When we were building the layout in Herb’s basement, they were some of the best times I ever had.
Herb was always an ambassador for model railroading and O Scale and exhibited at many Train Shows in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and other places….more good times together.
I am going to miss our weekly telephone conversations or visits and working on the layout.
Wishing you peace and comfort my dear friend
