Born in Albany, PEI on May 1, 1936, passed away peacefully with Delbert at her side on Monday, April 13, 2020 at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton, ON. Helen Christena Smith of Trenton, in her 84th year. Loving and devoted wife of Delbert Smith for 58 years. Survived by her dear sisters Jennie Matthews, Georgina ‘Jean’ Paynter, Margaret Newsome and Annie ‘Bertie’ Thompson and by her sister-in-law Erma Dawson. Predeceased by her parents Murdock and Grace Dawson, her sisters Louise Thomson, Mildred Harvey, Blanche Cairns and Mary Howatt and brothers Bennett, James and Harvey Dawson. Cherished sister-in-law of Ken & Gayle Smith, Carl & Glenda Smith, Betty & Paul Storring, Joan & Eugene Kidd, Bill Smith, Glenda & the late Ralph Smith, Monica & the late Earl Smith, Jack & Janice Smith, Eric & Linda Smith, Russell & Estella Smith and Bonnie & Charlie Heasman. Helen will be greatly missed and was loved so much by her many nieces and nephews and their families. Also lovingly remembered by her best friends Freda and Kim.
Helen’s positive outlook never changed and even through her cancer diagnosis her determination remained. Her infectious laugh, her consistent upbeat personality and those beautiful blue eyes and stylish red hair are just a few of the many things her family and friends will remember fondly. She was always open to trying something new, she loved to dance and she lived each day to the fullest. She especially enjoyed her yearly trip with Delbert back home to PEI and they were fortunate to be able to go this past Fall. She always had a good time and she was always there with open arms. She loved every moment spent with family and friends. Keep dancing Helen, soar high, we know you will.
A Family Graveside Service will be held at Pioneer Cemetery in Centreville. For those desiring, memorial donations to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation Cancer Centre (UHKF) would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Paul G. Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main St., Odessa, Ontario K0H 2H0 (613-386-7373). Please share your memories and condolences to the family at www.paynefuneralhome.com
