Cyca – Helen Ann
February 3, 1927- September 9, 2020
Helen passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home on September 9th. She was 93 years and 7 months old. She will be sadly missed by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Bill of 55 years in 2000, by her parents Steve and Nellie Krupski, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
Helen leaves to mourn 5 Children, 13 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
Daughter Norma (Tim) Guelph; Son Norbert (Diane) Saskatoon; Daughter Linda(Craig) Saskatoon; Son Bill (Barb) Kelowna; Son Jim Calgary.
Grandchildren: Kim(Gary) Coleman AB; Susan Spain; Ben Guelph; Dana White Rock; Tyler(Jenn) Edmonton; Kaitlin Saskatoon; Sheri(Mike) Bangladesh; Jodi Vonda; Hali(Sheldon) Saskatoon; Chris(Jen), Olivia (Gerrit) and BJ all of Kelowna; Kalon Calgary. Great Grandmother (GG) to Jason of Nelson BC; Ashley (Neil) High River AB; Laia, Pol & Tess of Spain; Oliver and Max White Rock; Jaden Montreal; Dylan Bangladesh; Katiana and Keb Saskatoon; Ava Saskatoon.
Great Great Grandmother to Ethan BC; Jack and Benett AB. She also leaves to mourn her sisters; Julie Saskatoon, Emily Regina, and sisters in law Ruth, Mona, and Freda all of Regina plus many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Mom was a true farmer’s wife. She worked very hard with her husband Bill, hauling grain, hauling drinking water, running for parts and taking meals out. She was the official gopher. Mom was an avid gardener, cook, canner, freezer, baker, and she loved sewing. She even taught 4H Home Craft Sewing. Both mom and dad loved square dancing and in fact mom would dance at a drop of a hat. She loved music and encouraged her children to learn and love music too. Her door was always open to whoever dropped by for lunch or supper…even the Watkins man who just happened to always drop by at meal time. She loved playing Holla and even played it with her Great Grandchildren. Mom and dad moved to Saskatoon in 1994 to the Renaissance Condo downtown. Mom lived there until her 89th Birthday and she loved every minute of it. She always said she felt like she was living in a hotel and on a holiday everyday. She would walk to the library, go shopping, meet her friends for coffee or walk in the park and take in the events that happened there. Aunt Em would come up from Regina and they would sit for days watching and listening to the Jazz Festival. They were almost the last ones to leave at night. After dad died, mom spent more time with her friends and was the designated driver until she turned 87 and decided that her driving days were over. The last 5 years were especially hard when mom had to leave her condo and move into Preston Park. She made the best of it and again made friends and enjoyed living there. Aunt Julie would stop in and together they would enjoy sharing a glass of wine and a visit. Mom’s last stop was St. Joseph’s Home where she spent her last 2 weeks of her life. Even though it was a short time, it was heart warming to see the care givers come in to mom’s room and say “Youhoo Helen, we are here to reposition you” and they would talk to her as they worked. Youhoo was mom’s signature call and everyone got to know it. When mom arrived at St. Joseph’s on August 27th, the Nuns said that mom expressed how beautiful and colorful her new home was. She complimented everyone on their clothing. Even though mom was in pain for the last 7 weeks she enjoyed her surroundings especially all the flowers and trees. We want to thank the Nuns and staff for all the loving care they gave our mother during her last days. We all felt mom’s peace with the home and the care that was given. In lieu of flowers please give to the charity of your choice.
A Liturgy of the Word will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Dr.) in Saskatoon, with a PowerPoint beginning at 10:00 a.m. Due to this trying time of COVID, social distancing will be implemented.
