Harriet Doris Van Alstyne (Halstead) died peacefully August 11, 2020, one day after her 93rd birthday. Her family was able to sing “Happy Birthday” to her.
Harriet was the daughter of Gunnar and Hildur Halstead of Winnipeg, where she was born and raised, attending Daniel McIntyre High School. It was at Daniel Mac where she developed her love of singing and dancing, a love that she shared with others throughout her long and happy life.
Harriet was the loving wife of Clifford Edward. The couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2016.
Harriet’s daughter Tyla (Gordon) and sons Craig (Audrey) and Jamie (Lisa), survive her. Seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive her.
Hat and Cliff enjoyed traveling globally, visiting numerous exotic and not-so-exotic places. She loved to inspire, laugh, sing, dance, curl, and to support her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors.
Her greatest love, surpassing all others, was for her family.
The service (with limited seating due to the pandemic) will be held at St. Stephen the Martyr Anglican church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Normanna Rest Home, a non-profit residential care facility in Burnaby, where Harriet lived. Harriet loved her Scandinavian heritage and that the Normanna is owned and operated by the Norwegian Old People’s Home Association.
